If you are unwell or injured, it’s important to choose the right service to make sure you get the best treatment as quickly as possible. You may not need to see your GP or go to the Emergency Department.

For common ailments and illnesses, such as:

  • Hangover
  • Grazed knee
  • Sore throat
  • Cough

A lot of illnesses can be treated at home with medicines and by getting plenty of rest. Self-care is the best choice to treat very minor illnesses and injuries.

If you are unsure about whether your illness requires self-care, please visit NHS 111 online.

Depending on the situation, the NHS 111 team can connect you to a nurse, emergency dentist, or even a GP, and can arrange a face-to-face appointment if they think you need one. They can also assess if you need an ambulance and send one immediately, if necessary.

The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Our four Urgent Treatment Centres (UTCs) - Buxton, Ilkeston, Ripley and Whitworth Hospital - are open seven days a week, between 8am and 8pm across Derbyshire.

Our Urgent Treatment Centres are run by highly skilled paramedics and specialist nurses. GP cover is also provided to further broaden the level of clinical expertise and supervision available in each of the centres.

For residents of Derby City, the Derby Urgent Treatment Centre, run by One Medical Group, is also available to treat minor injuries and illnesses.
